    TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

    Dr. Farmer is a recognized expert in the technical field of chemistry, and one of the world’s authorities on       
    surfactant chemistry.  He offers 37 years of experience in applications, synthesis and characterization of surface-
    active agents (surfactants) and chemical specialties for consumer products, industrial applications and petroleum
    recovery. Dr. Farmer is also a mentioned inventor on 21 US patents (and related foreign rights) for 5 different
    international corporations.

    As a Consultant with Grund IP Group, Dr. Farmer contributes his exceptional technical expertise and experience        
    to the benefit of our firm's clients.

    PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

    Dr. Farmer held senior-level positions at well-known companies, including:

  •  Akzo Nobel Surface Chemistry LLC, Chicago, IL , Manager, Technical Service & Development (1996-2004);
  •  Akzo Nobel Research & Development Laboratory, Dobbs Ferry, NY, Department Head, Industrial  
    Surfactants (1990-1996).
    During his tenure at Akzo, he was listed as inventor on eight (8) US Patents relating to viscosity       
    control agents for oilfield hydrofracing, biocidal wood preservation, chemical intermediates for new
    nitrogen-based surfactants, and fuel additives for controlling cylinder deposits.

  • Alberto-Culver Company, Melrose Park, IL, Director, New Product Research (1987-1990).  Here, his
    innovations led to two (2) US patents on aerosolized adhesive sprays for household products.

  • The Gillette Company, Boston, MA, Asst. Director, Polymer Research Dept. (1983-1987);
  • Gillette Research Institute, Rockville, MD, Director, Chemical Research Dept. (1973-1983), where he             
    headed a group of 25 PhD’s responsible for pioneering R&D in analytical, microbiology, personal care     
    product development and new concepts in writing instrument technology, and was listed as the principal
    investigator on numerous government contracts.
    While at Gillette, Dr. Farmer was listed as an inventor on seven (7) US patents on ink technology     
    ($8MM infringement awarded based on an erasable ink patent), new surfactants for shampoos, and    
    even technologies relating to extending flavor and freshness in chewing gum.

  • Alcolac, Inc., Baltimore, MD, Director, Surfactant Research (1970-1973); his innovations yielded                            
    one (1) US patent on copolymerizable surfactants for reducing water spotting of water-based gloss paints.

  • Shell Development Co., Houston, TX,  Chemist (1967-1970), where he worked on the synthesis,
    characterization and evaluation of tertiary oil recovery surfactants resulting in three (3) US patents on
    hydrolytically stable surfactant for oilfield flooding and new techniques for determining residual reservoir      
    oil content.

    HOBBIES     Dr. Farmer is an avid amateur radio enthusiast, having acquired his first radio license in 1979.  He    
    has also successfully contacted every recognized country in the world, and is the recipient of the #1 Honor Roll
    plaque of the Amateur Radio Relay League
