European, German and International patent prosecution; drafting of documents required for opposition proceedings and appeal hearings before the European Patent Office; assisting with the preparation of patent non-infringement and invalidity opinions, freedom-to-operate opinions. TECHNICAL EXPERTISE Biotechnology, chemistry, nutritional chemistry, molecular diagnostics, metabolic pathways, immunology, oncology, genetics and related medical devices in the mechanical arts. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE Dr. Michel recently joined the professionals of Grund IP Group in January, 2010, where she is gaining practical experience in the drafting and prosecution of European, German and PCT patent, trademark and design applications in addition to preparing documents for opposition proceedings and appeal hearings before the European Patent Office. Dr. Michel studied chemistry at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, and earned her first graduate degree in nutritional chemistry from the University of Hohenheim, where she received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation. During this time, Dr. Michel performed research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Seattle, USA). Dr. Michel has recently completed her Ph.D. (Dr. sc. hum.), summa cum laude, with the Department of Applied Tumor Biology in connection with the German Cancer Research Center at the University of Heidelberg (Heidelberg, Germany). Her thesis dissertation concerned the molecular mechanisms contributing to the development of colorectal cancer and on the interactions between immune system and the molecular alterations in cellular antigen presentation pathways. During her graduate studies, Dr. Michel was awarded a three year scholarship from the Helmholtz International Graduate School for Cancer Research in recognition of her achievement as an outstanding junior scientist. Dr. Michel has also peer-reviewed articles submitted to scientific journals, including "BMC Cancer".
